I wonder what did Zeus think. Create man, let them be what they like, then some men mistreated by nature/other men, then they grumble, then they strike Zeus. Zeus angry, agree to wipe out mankind (represented by the population of Argos). Perseus came, stop the massacre, saved mankind...

Sounds too... coincidence.
