I used to like the catchy pop songs, because hey, I tend to follow the general preferences. When browsing for songs to listen to, I often find the "most listened" or "popular" to start with. It's a great way to get myself attracted to them. Pop songs, with the singers like Taylor Swift, Taio Cruz, and Justin Bieber, to name a few, are well-received because of two things: Lyrics and Tunes.
Pop songs often have emotional lyrics (for the ones rich with emotions), or if not, with a carefree lyrics. Emotional, i mean songs like the ones from Jay Chou, often synchronizes with the listeners' feelings. Audience will relate the lyrics to their things happened in their lives. Besides, the right tune can catch the ears quickly. I'm not pro at music. But I can tell the tempo is simple and yet interesting. Like the "Trouble is a Friend" has a interesting pace of music, although it catches the mainstream quite late after its release. "Need You Now" is also another example of late wide-reception songs I know.
However, as I listened to more songs, I slowly realize I pick a few and left out some. It is probably due to my environment (I don't often use speakers because I love listening to songs loudly but I do not wish to annoy people around me) and earphones .The first "expensive" earphone I have is Shure SE102, was a rookie when buying it, and realized that it wasn't worth the price. So long for the big stores like Switch offering unworthy IEMs (of course I'm prejudiced).
The SE102 really altered my preferences to songs because of its capability, or rather incapability, to produce only clear sounds. It offers feeble bass, hence songs like Boom Boom Pow, Like a G6, or even Dynamite are definitely failure to the earphone. But.. But songs like Back to December (acoustic), or like Morning Has Broken (Cat Stevens) are very well played. I enjoyed the tweak of guitar strings and the click of piano keys very much, so much that the next earphone I chose resembles the ability to produce clear sounds (Radius TWF11). Sad to say, I just realized that TWF11's strength lies not on clarity but rather bass =.=
There's lots of musics to explore, so maybe sometimes later I'll sway from one genre to another. I love classical, but to a certain degree as classical musics still have the mystical power of hypnotizing me (I usually found myself waking up with the earbuds stuck in my ears!). I'm not a big fan of Mandarin songs, but I somewhat fancy oldies probably because dad used to play it at home, and I enjoyed the richness of the singers' voice. They can SING!
Well, that's all for now. Do tell me what you enjoy to listen to!
