Rojak continues

Today the delusional talk continues...

People are delusional. And constantly in a state of denial. A failure model is used again and again, a failed government is voted again and again, a losing strategy is applied over and over, why?

Because the brain keeps on saying those failed things will work if tried harder, and the next time they try, it will be a success.

Don't you sometimes feel that being persistent is almost the same as being stupid? The difference between persistent and stupidity is that the former will make changes and tweaks if the previous method didn't work, the later will keep on applying the same method and expecting a different result.

And what keeps stupid people stupid? Exactly! The denial which comfort themselves that the next time they try, something different might happen.

We do not have to be good at everything. We have to be great at something.

In business, competitive advantage means you own or possess a skill, knowledge, or resource which others do not have, or not as good as what you are having, and that skill, knowledge, or resource is the key for your success.

Apple's competitive advantages are its innovation in technology and its marketing. Coca cola's competitive advantage lies in its brand value. Samsung's competitive advantage is "adaptation" in the latest technology changes. Every successful brand has a weapon they can rely on to gain profit.

What is your competitive advantage?

Remember, competitive advantage isn't about you doing great at everything. In fact, Apple doesn't really have many products to cater for every market segments. Nobody needs to be perfect at every single details. You can still compete and win if you have something valuable and people wants it. In our country's educational system, we are expected to excel at all subjects. We are expected to be fluent at all languages while drawing using our left hand and writing down physics formula using our right hand. That is why many students with excellent results cannot do anything significant. They do not know what they are good at.

Turn what you are good at into what people want, and you can be successful.

Michael Dell is good at finding a team of skilful people and design a unique system of delivering computers according to what each customer wants. Michael Jackson is good at entertaining people. Michael Jordan is good at playing basketball. Michael Phelps is good at swimming. See, these Michaels are not god. They probably cannot excel in what the other Michael's fields. They are good at what they do, and they persist in it.

Go out there and find out what you can do. And do it.

Like Nike. And Adidas.
